Join the team!

Sac Kidical Mass needs help! We're looking for 3-5 dedicated bikey parents to help organize and lead rides. Ideally, we would all meet once/month a few weeks before each ride to delegate tasks and plan for future rides. You wouldn't be required to come to EVERY ride/meeting but it would be great if you could commit to helping with 2-3 rides per year. Please email me with any questions: tinyhelmets (at) gmail . com

August Kidical Mass

Our last ride for August was a blast! As part of the Safe Routes To School Conference, we attracted more adults than Kidicals this time, however, it was great to see some little locals (and their bigguns) joining the conference participants. We were also lucky enough to have Shane MacRhodes, the original co-founder of Kidical Mass and a Eugene Safe Routes To School coordinator. He had some great suggestions and ideas for fun rides. We ended the ride with a visit from POPcycle for yummy treats after a warm ride.

One big change that we're pleased to announce: Sacramento Kidical Mass is now going to be each fourth Saturday of the month! This gives everyone a regular schedule to put on their calendars. Come as often as you can! Our goal is to get as many families out riding safely and legally while having a ton of fun!

If you have any ideas or routes that you'd like to see happen, please let us know: tinyhelmets@gmail.com

Make sure save the date for these upcoming Kidical Mass rides! More details will be divulged as the ride date approaches. (There is always the possibility that rides/times may change due to weather or scheduling conflicts)

September 28th: Doughbot Ride! Meet at Grant Park (22nd and C st). at 9am to grab some tasty Doughbot doughnuts then head over to Southside Park to run off the sugar.

October 26th: Halloween Ride! Dress up your bike and yourselves for some spooky and silly fun! Prizes will be awarded for unique costumes.

November 23rd: Fairytale Town Ride! Meet at Southside Park for a ride to Fairytale Town for a picnic lunch. Tickets are approx. $5/person (discounts available if we get a group of 25+)

December 28th: Hot Cocoa Ride! It's hard to imagine that the weather will ever get cool again but let's plan for a warm treat after this chilly ride.

Special January 1st: Ride to Sutter's Landing to welcome the New Year at the American River.

Happy riding!

Gearing Back Up!

Our fearless Sacramento Kidical Mass founder, Warren, has taken a leave to teach in Vietnam with his family. We are extremely grateful for all his hard work and dedication to getting Kidical Mass started in our area.

Now that the groundwork has been laid out, it's time to get Sac Kidical Mass back up and rolling! The next Kidical Mass ride is actually going to be a part of the 4th annual Safe Routes To School Conference being held here in Sacramento next week. On Wednesday, August 14th, from 11:30am to 1pm, join us for a short ride around downtown Sacramento. We'll be starting at the Sheraton Grand Hotel where the conference is being held. We have a guest speaker, Shane MacRhodes, who is the founder of Kidical Mass and recently led a wildly fun and successful camping trip ride in Eugene with over 100 participants. To end our ride, we'll be met by the fantastic POPcycle for anyone to pick up a delicious treat from Rachel's famous pedal-powered ice cream mobile.

Please help spread the word that Sacramento Kidical Mass is back! We would love to hear suggestions of your favorite local rides with kids or places you would like to check out by bike.

Change for Oct. Ride: 10/28

Please note the change of venue! Join us for a Halloween-y bike parade! Starting at 1pm at Grant Park (22nd and C st). Come dressed up and decorate your bike. At 2pm, we will be biking 3 miles to Sutter's Landing Park. Steve Cohn is hosting a benefit to rebuild McKinley Playground (12-4pm). There will be food, music, beer, and bike parking. If you can't make the ride, come join the McKinley event anyway and feel free to head home at your leisure. A $5 donation per family is suggested to help cover the Kidical Mass event costs, all profits will go to the Rebuild McKinley Park benefit.

Sept. ride this Sunday evening, Sept. 16th!

The September Sac Kidical Mass ride will be on Sunday, September 16th at Coloma Park in Elmhurst!

We'll be meeting at 5:15 for a picnic and the ride will begin at 6:00. Coloma Park (T St. & 47th St.) is the playground for the Coloma Center, which used to be an elementary school, so there is a play structure and a bit of grass to roll around on. We'll ride down T St. and then back on U St.

We look forward to seeing everyone next week!

Also, I must admit that I've been better about updating the Sac Kidical Mass Facebook page than this blog (sorry!), so go take a look at it!
